If the lock beeps, flashes, or responds slowly, the batteries may be too weak to drive the motor. Replace all batteries with fresh, matching cells (and confirm the battery contacts are clean and seated). If the lock has an external power port, test it with the recommended backup power method.
Many smart locks won’t lock unless the door is completely closed and the latch lines up with the strike plate. Push the door firmly and try again. If it locks only when you press or lift the door, the strike plate likely needs adjustment, or the door may be sagging.
If the deadbolt extends partway and retracts, the motor may be sensing excessive resistance. With the door open, try locking/unlocking—if it works smoothly open but not closed, the issue is alignment. If it’s stiff even with the door open, check for debris, paint buildup, or a warped latch/bolt.
Features like auto-lock, passage mode, or door-position sensors can override locking behavior. Verify the lock’s mode in the app and recalibrate any door sensor. If there’s a “jam detection” or “safety stop” setting, it may be triggering due to friction or misalignment.
If manual locking works but app/remote commands fail, focus on Bluetooth/Wi‑Fi hub range, permissions, and firmware updates. Restart the lock (and hub/router if used), then re-pair if commands remain inconsistent.
A forced entry attempt can bend the strike plate, shift the door frame, or damage the deadbolt, making smart locks more likely to detect a jam and refuse to lock. Use a “restart” or “soft reset” option in the app if available; that typically preserves user codes. A full factory reset usually wipes codes, so back up or note them before performing it.
