Cheapest Flight Booking Sites: How to Choose

If you want one website to start your search for the cheapest flights, we recommend Google Flights because its calendar and map make it easy to compare dates, nearby airports, and destinations. It is a search tool rather than a promise of the lowest final price, so use the result as a starting point and compare the fare on the airline’s website before paying.

We suggest checking a second search site, such as Skyscanner or Kayak, because different sites may surface different airlines, routes, or booking options for the same trip. Compare the total cost after bags, seat selection, and payment fees, and make sure the departure airport, connection time, and ticket rules work for you.

A third-party booking site may show a lower price, but booking directly with the airline can make it simpler to manage changes or resolve a schedule disruption. Our team recommends reading the cancellation and change terms on the checkout page, especially if your school calendar or travel plans might shift.

If your dates are flexible, compare flights a few days before and after your preferred departure, set a price alert, and consider nearby airports only when the ground transportation cost still makes sense. Students can also look for eligible student fares or discounts and use our Finding the Best Flight Deals With AI — Student Travel Savings Guide as a companion to their search; confirm eligibility and the final fare before booking.
